Ruby's Blog | Planning Checklist: 1-2 Weeks Before the Wedding and On

Hello Brides and Grooms To Be!

I’m Ruby, the Rochester Bride! As a newlywed of the Rochester area, I love sharing my knowledge of the wedding experience with newly engaged couples. This week I can’t wait to share with you some tips and pointers about the next step in creating your own planning checklist, which is 1-2 weeks before your wedding and on!

1-2 Weeks
  1.  Get address and name change forms for social security card, driver's license, etc.
  2. Call guests who have not responded.
  3. Confirm all the earlier listed services. (IE, photographer, reception caterer, music,...)
  4. Prepare place cards for reception.
  5. Give your caterer or reception site a final count of guests.
  6. Pack for honeymoon.
  7. Confirm details with attendants.
  8. Write thank-you's for wedding gifts you have received.
  9. Confirm rehearsal dinner details.
One Day Before
  1. Pamper yourself (massage, manicure, tanning...).
  2. Lay out your wedding attire and accessories.
  3. Prepare emergency sewing kit, make-up bag, and overnight bag.
  4. Have fun at your ceremony rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
  5. Go to bed early! You will have a long day ahead of you tomorrow!
Your Wedding Day
  1. Eat a good breakfast.
  2. ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE PLANNED. IT IS YOUR DAY!

Hello Brides and Grooms To Be!

I’m Ruby the Rochester Bride! As a newlywed of the Rochester area, I love sharing my knowledge of the wedding experience with newly engaged couples. This week I can’t wait to share with you some tips and pointers about the next step in creating your own planning checklist, which is 3-6 months before your wedding! 


  1. Schedule dance classes.
  2. Plan bachelor and/or bachelorette parties.
  3. Schedule final fitting for wedding gown.
  4. Obtain something old, new, borrowed, and blue.
  5. Verify attire alterations, shoes, and jewelry.
  6. Mail invitations (6 weeks before wedding).
  7. Have programs printed.
  8. Experiment with your hair and headpiece to find a wedding style.
  9. Purchase cake top, cake knife, toasting glasses, ring bearer's pillow, guest book, garter, aisle runner, candles, and/or rent the money box.
  10. Buy gifts for attendants, spouse to be, and both sets of parents.
  11. Mail invitations for rehearsal dinner.
  12. Acquire a marriage license (valid for 60 days).
  13. Inform special guests of duties (IE, readings at ceremony).

This week I can’t wait to share with you some tips and pointers about the next step in creating your own planning checklist, which is 3-6 months before your wedding! 

  1. Finalize guest list.
  2. Consider putting together a wedding web page.
  3. Order invitations.
  4. Select favors.
  5. Select tuxedos or kilts.
  6. Choose wedding cake, cookies, and pastries.
  7. Choose wedding bands.
  8. Choose decorations for reception and ceremony (IE, balloons, etc.)
  9. Plan rehearsal dinner.
  10. Gather information for out-of-town guests (hotel, transportation and addresses) to include with your invitations.
  11. Schedule appointments for hair, nails,facial, tanning, dentist (IE, teeth whitening), etc...
  12. Attend wedding shower
  13. Write thank-you's for shower gifts.
  14. Start addressing, stamping, and stuffing wedding invitations.
  15. Decide if you plan to preserve your bouquet.

  1. Have mothers and attendants choose dresses and accessories.
  2. Finalize honeymoon.
  3. Choose bridal registry.
  4. Choose your transportation: Limousine, Limo Bus, Trolly.
  5. Send out save the dates.
  6. Start looking for a home or apartment.

  1. Set the date and time.
  2. Determine budget and type of wedding.
  3. Select attendants.
  4. Start putting a guest list together that fits your budget.
  5. Announce your engagement in the newspaper.
  6. Parents may host engagement parties.
  7. Select wedding consultant.
  8. Select place for ceremony.
  9. Select reception site.
  10. Select florist.
  11. Select color scheme.
  12. Select photographer.
  13. Select videographer.
  14. Select music for the ceremony and reception.
  15. Select caterer.
  16. Select rentals (tent, chairs, tables, linens, chair covers).
  17. Select wedding gown, headpiece, veil, accessories, shoes, and stockings.
  18. Schedule engagement portrait.
  19. Plan honeymoon and, if necessary, apply for passports.
