Ruby's Blog | Choosing A Photographer

Hello Bride and Grooms To Be!

I’m Ruby the Rochester Bride! As a newlywed of the Rochester area, I love sharing my knowledge of the wedding experience with newly engaged couples. This week I can’t wait to share with you some tips and pointers on choosing a photographer for your wedding day!

When selecting your photographer:
- Choose carefully!
- Get recommendations from others.
- Look at their previous albums: the album should be well balanced, good color photos should be clear and in focus. Look for overall creativity and the use of different photographic treatments.
- Make appointments with two or three photographers and review their portfolios to determine if their style matches what you want.
- Schedule to speak with the person who will be photographing your wedding, personality is important!

When meeting with your photographer discuss:
- Their experience in photography.
- How many photos will be taken and what types will be taken.
- What size photos will be included in the album or package.
- Style of the album (plastic or genuine leather)
- Any special packages/cost.
- Do these extra costs include the album.
- Are there any extra fees.
- How long after the wedding does the photographer keep the files.
- Are the files properly stored for future use.
- Do you receive a copy of the high resolution images on a disc.

Once you choose your photographer:
- Get a written contract specifying the time of arrival, number of pictures, how long the photographer stays for, and the delivery date.
- Discuss different photo settings, special locations, family members other than the wedding party, lighting restrictions and a contact person to help point out certain people.

Being specific about who you choose as your photographer is worth the research. It should be someone you trust to capture the feelings, expressions and moments of your special day!
