Ruby's Blog | Preserving Your Wedding Dress

Hello Brides and Grooms To Be!

I’m Ruby the Rochester Bride! As a newlywed of the Rochester area, I love sharing my knowledge of the wedding experience with newly engaged couples. This week I can’t wait to share with you some tips and pointers on your gown preservation!

-Protect your gown as soon as possible after your wedding day with expert dry-cleaning and careful storage.
-Invisible stains such as oil or beverage stains can discolor if not treated and become permanent.
-Most heirloom dresses can be restored to original color if treated.
-Read the label on the dress on how to treat and clean the dress.
-Have your dry-cleaner first test the gown for clean-ability.
-Store your gown in a clean, dry place not a basement or attic.
-If you hang your gown, stuff the bodice with white tissue paper to prevent wrinkles.
-Sew straps to the waistline of the dress to relieve pressure on the shoulders from skirt weight.
-Finally, wrap the dress in a protective white sheet or muslin covering.
